Hey Loves!! So here we are on the road to our best wardrobes, right? Yes! If you read my last post, 5 Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your Wardrobe, and were like “Dani, you’re right sis, I gotta get my life together,” I’ve got you covered! We’re going to start right where it matters most, your closet.
The best advice I can give to someone looking to redo their wardrobe is to start within. Clean that closet out girl! This is really the chance you get to look at every single item you own and decide “Is this really working for me? Is this working for me lifestyle?” Its takes quite a bit a work but trust me, it’s so worth it for you and your pockets. Not to mention you never know what you might fall in love with again.
Below are the types of questions I ask when I begin my closet purging process. It really helps me to get down to the nitty gritty of whether or not I am truly creating a wardrobe that is 100% functional and fashionable.
So are ya’ll ready? Let’s get into it.
“Do I Love It?”
These are your wardrobe favorites. The type of items in your closet that you look at and your eyes literally light up. I think that one should feel this way about everything in their closet. If you don’t love it, what it really doing there honestly.
“Wait, Does this fit me?”
EDIT** Items that do not fit and that your do not have the intention on making them fit. This means fit a garment is too big, are you going to get it tailored? If a garment is too snug, are you actively working to fit it. A lot of times we have to be real with ourselves. Myself is definitely included. I’ve gained a bit of wait over the pass few years and there were quite a few items that know lot fit or fit like I want them too.
“I thought I already had something like this?”
Now this does not refer to your basics (solid tees, denim etc). I’m talking about your trending pieces that look eerily similar to another. We all know prefer one over the other. Toss that other one.
Items that were purchased to “Wear later”
I can’t tell you guys how many times I’ve purchase items with the intention to wear for a blog post or that I’ve purchased only to where for a blog post, have only worn once and those thing have never seen the light of day again. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve purchased items to wear to the club knowing good gosh darn well that’s not my scene. It’s not very practical in terms of making the most out of my wardrobe. It’s 2018 and we’re creating FUNCTIONAL, fashionable wardrobes.
This is going to ruffle a few feathers, but this included items that you bought with the intention to wear late that do not fit. Sis, unless you are actively taking the steps to fit in this garment within a reasonable amount of time, I’m going to suggest that you toss it. I’m speaking from experience. Time will past by and it will sit there. More time will pass by and now you don’t even like the item you had initially purchased. Let’s be real with ourselves.
Items that are worn
Ok so you love it? Check. Fits like a glove? Check. Not a duplicate? Check. You intend on wearing as often as possible? Check. BUT it’s a little faded, a little more stretched out than it used to be. There might even be a sneaky hole that you’ve been managing to hide with a couple of safety pins. It hurts I know, but it might be time to part ways. Don’t worry, you’ll find something else just as great.
I wanted this guide to very actionable for you, meaning that I wanted for your guys to be able to take this information, go through your closet and actually be able to purge items that no longer serve purpose in your closet. Kid you not, I’ve used the in tackling my own closet (which is a monster btw) and have been able to pull out 5 trash bags of items that no longer serve purpose in my closet. Seriously Try it, and let me know how it works for you.
